Notes
“Soave sia il vento” (“May the wind be gentle”) is the lyrical trio that concludes Act I of Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Women Are Like That). In this scene, two sisters—joined by their philosopher friend—bid a bittersweet farewell to their lovers departing by sea, accompanied by continuous 16th-note parallel thirds in the violins, evoking both lapping waves and whispering wind. This two-piano transcription faithfully captures all three vocal lines and orchestral textures, preserving Mozart’s transparent structure, serene character, and radiant melody.
